Depending on the programs used and the entries in the report, storage-related charges may appear as monthly FBA storage, aged inventory, legacy long-term-storage descriptions, or Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD).
In one selected Payments Transaction Report analyzed with Margiyo, recognized storage-related entries totaled $1,734.46—24.3% of the product-sales amount shown for that same report period.
This is one report, not a benchmark. The result does not establish that any charge was incorrect or avoidable. It shows why checking one monthly storage line may miss other recognized storage-related entries.
One Report, Three Storage-Related Buckets
The monthly inventory storage line was $346.68. When the other recognized storage-related groups in the selected report were included, the total was $1,734.46.
That creates a clearer first view of the report. It does not determine whether the charges were appropriate, what caused them, or whether they could have been prevented.
What Sellers Call Amazon Storage Fees Is Not One Charge
Monthly FBA inventory storage
Amazon says monthly inventory storage is based on the daily average volume, measured in cubic feet, occupied by inventory in fulfillment centers. Rates vary by product size and time of year. See Amazon’s monthly inventory storage guidance.
Aged inventory surcharge
Aged inventory surcharge is Amazon’s current term. Amazon says inventory stored in a fulfillment center for 181 days or longer may be subject to the charge. Older reports may use long-term-storage wording. Margiyo may group recognized legacy descriptions for review, but does not assume every old and current label is universally identical. Check Amazon’s aged inventory surcharge guidance and legacy storage reference.
Amazon Warehousing and Distribution
AWD is Amazon’s bulk storage and distribution program for upstream replenishment to FBA and other channels. It has its own storage and processing charges. Amazon explains the program on its AWD page.
Storage utilization surcharge
Amazon documents this surcharge within its monthly storage fee structure. Eligibility depends on Amazon’s current rules, so verify the applicable account details in Seller Central. See Amazon’s monthly storage fee guidance.
Amazon’s FBA fees guide also provides current general context. For the broader distinction between fulfillment, storage, and selling costs, see what Amazon FBA fee totals can represent.
Why These Entries Are Easy to Miss
An Amazon financial export can contain many row types. The same seller question can be represented by different descriptions and rows.
- Locate the relevant entries in the selected report.
- Separate them from other Amazon fees.
- Group recognized storage-related descriptions.
- Compare the recognized total with product sales shown for the same report period.
Margiyo provides a first review using its current classification logic. The result depends on the contents and format of the selected report, and the classification may miss or misclassify an entry.
What the 24.3% Figure Means
It puts the recognized storage-related total in scale against the product-sales amount shown in the same selected report.
It is not a profit margin. Product sales are not the same as profit, payout, or total business revenue. Complete profitability can also require COGS, advertising, freight, and other operating costs.
The figure does not establish that the charges were correct or incorrect, that different inventory decisions would have changed them, that they were avoidable, that another storage choice was better, or that the business was profitable.

What to Review After You See the Total
Start with the largest group
Identify which recognized storage-related group accounts for the largest share of the total.
Keep the period consistent
Compare recognized costs with the product-sales amount shown for the same report period.
Verify the underlying records
Use Seller Central and the relevant Amazon records to confirm the entries before making a business decision.
Add business context
Explaining product cause or root cause can require inventory, product, and other operational data beyond one Payments Transaction Report.

Amazon Storage Fee Questions
Which report do I need?
Select a supported Amazon Payments Transaction Report CSV from Reports Repository.
Does Margiyo connect to Seller Central?
No. The current Free Snapshot does not require a Seller Central connection or Amazon API access.
Is my CSV uploaded?
The current Free Snapshot processes the selected CSV locally in your browser. Raw CSV contents are not intentionally uploaded to Margiyo servers in that flow. See the Privacy Policy for current data practices.
Is aged inventory surcharge separate from monthly inventory storage?
Yes. Amazon documents them as separate fee areas and says inventory stored for 181 days or longer may be subject to aged inventory surcharge.
Why might an older report say long-term storage?
Amazon terminology has changed over time. Margiyo may group recognized legacy long-term-storage descriptions for review without claiming every legacy label is universally identical to a current one.
Does a large storage-related total prove a charge was wrong?
No. A large total is a signal to review, not proof of an error, overcharge, avoidable cost, or recoverable amount.
Can Margiyo identify every storage charge?
No. Classification depends on the selected report’s contents and format and may miss or misclassify an entry.
Can one report show which product caused the cost?
Not always. Product cause and root-cause analysis may require additional inventory, product, and operational reports.
Does this calculate complete profitability?
No. The Free Snapshot is informational and is not accounting, tax, legal, financial, or investment advice. Complete profitability requires business costs that may not appear in the selected report. Use of Margiyo is also subject to the Terms of Use.
